interesting article ... food for thought

I read an msn article today about whether you could feed a family of four for under $100. Here's the link if you'd like to read:

http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/CollegeAndFamily/RaiseKids/CanAFamilyEatOn100AWeek.aspx

It sounds like the author included eating out with the $100/week. Our family lumps "eating out" under the entertainment umbrella in our budget, but grocery-wise I "think" we regularly eat under $100 a week.

What do you guys think? Is eating under $100 a week more than doable (i.e., you're doing it), or is that dooming you to a life of rice and beans?

We totally spend less then that a week on food. Wal-mart I tell you, saves me around $30 a week!

JULIE! i found your blog off of missy's! awww i totally miss chatting with you in the mom's room about shoes - hahahahaha!

we do eat for under $100 a week! fox now eats 'people' food (hahaha i said people food...like he'd eat anything else!) but even before that, i used to make his food which saved us mucho $$$. yay! we shop costco, frys, and sprouts. sprouts on wednesdays are double ad days! and the past two weeks, frys has been taking EVERYONE'S coupons! i do cook a lot of rice and pasta dishes but we don't seem to mind. maybe i should teach you some great stir-fry and fried rice dishes!!! sooo very easy!

and when james and i do go out (once every two weeks) we do go over the $100 a week. i'm a sucker for creme brulee at AJ's. :)

I love this post. I think the girl in the article needs to go to enrichment nights. We eat for less than 100 a week.
